The Last Giraffe publishes sourced explainers and makes a large giraffe research index easier to explore. Alongside that work, we are developing a vision for a future reserve, sanctuary and conservation lodge.

The publication and evidence base.
Explore 228 giraffe articles and a searchable catalogue of 3,620 research records across 20 evidence areas. 228 articles carry an editorial review date. Those dates record our checking process, not scientific peer review or a guarantee that every source remains current.
Our role
Understand the evidence.
We publish explanations and connect readers with original sources. Field research and conservation work belong to the scientists, communities, and organisations identified in those sources.
Editorial standard
Claims stop where the evidence stops.
Articles should identify sources, dates, uncertainty, and the difference between a reported fact, a working interpretation, and an unfinished review.
The Last Giraffe is responsible for the explanations we publish, our use of AI assistance, and corrections. The scientists cited in an article are responsible for the original research; they are not presented as our editors or as endorsing our account. Send a correction with the article link and the passage or source at issue to science@thelastgiraffe.org.
